Landing at YVR for your vacation or business travel? There are several ground transportation options available to get you into the downtown area.
The Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics brought about the building of the new rapid transit Canada Line that takes passengers into downtown Vancouver and offers many convenient stops along the way. At a cost of $9 per passenger ($7.75 for seniors and children), this is an inexpensive and convenient option that takes approximately 25 minutes. The train is located on Level 4. There are three stops in the downtown area, conveniently landing you in the heart of the city. Many hotels are within walking distance of Canada Line stops or a short taxi ride will get you to many of the other hotels downtown and will likely not cost more than $10.
Taxis are plentiful and available directly outside the terminal building. Only specially licensed taxis are permitted to pick up passengers at the airport. Taxi stands are located on Level 2 (Arrivals). A dedicated attendant outside the terminal will be able to assist you. Look for signs that indicate Taxis and Sedans. A taxi from Vancouver Airport to downtown Vancouver should cost you about $40.
If you can afford to splurge, or you have more than a few passengers travelling together and more luggage than will fit in a standard taxi cab, you may want to consider hiring a limousine from the airport. Limos are also readily available and will cost approximately $65 to downtown Vancouver. Follow the Taxi and Sedan sign from Level 2. This service is offered by Aerocar and you can also book a return trip by limo from your hotel to the airport. Ask your concierge to pre-book this for you.
There is also a local city bus service that stops at YVR and is often used by airport employees. The fare for this service is between$ 2.75 and $4.00, depending on the time of day, however this option is time consuming and involves numerous transfers.
